How XRF Works & APS Analytical Technology™

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is a non-destructive testing technique that uses X-rays to measure the elemental composition of an alloy or sample in four systematic steps.

Emission

The analyzer emits primary X-rays through the aperture window directly onto the test target.

Excitation

X-rays hit atoms in the sample, ejecting inner shell electrons and causing characteristic fluorescence emission.

03

Signal Measurement

The returning fluorescent X-rays are captured by the Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) to generate a live energy spectrum.

04

Material Results

Software calculates elemental percentage (%) and automatically matches the alloy grade (e.g. 316 Exact) in seconds.
